Greater Vancouver Regional District to Push for National Regulation and Change-out Program for GVRD
As part of its Air Quality Management Plan for Greater Vancouver issued in September, the GVRD plans to "Strongly encourage the senior governments to develop and implement a regulation on the manufacture and sale of woodburning appliances and implement an old wood-burning appliance change-out program.
Burn it Smart 2006
The Burn it Smart campaign continues in Ontario and BC.
HPBAC Ontario Chapter with funding from Environment Canada Ontario Region and CMHC are hosting a two week series of workshops for the public and professionals (fire departments, building officials, insurance and real estate brokers and retail staff) in northern and southwestern Ontario in February of 2006. Workshops will be held in Goderich, Wyoming, Kettle and Stony Point First Nations, Delaware First Nations and Romeo, Michigan in the southwest and in Sudbury, Blind River, Mississauga First Nations, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. HPBAC will also deliver workshops at the Northeastern Firefighters conference in North Bay in March and the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors Conference in Kingston in February.
Over the past year, WETBC, with funding from the province, held Burn it Smart workshops in BC in Sechelt, Gibsons, 100 Mile House, William Lake, Quesnel, Langford, Victoria, Nanaimo, Campbell River and Darrington, Washington with Zigi Gadomski delivering the workshops. Zigi recently spent two days in Nanaimo at a Renewable Energy Technologies Fair with the Burn trailer and four days at Port Alberni's Harvest Fair promoting clean wood burning. Reid Harvey has also delivered workshops in Vernon, Penticton, Princeton and Kelowna as part of the highly successful Okanagan Changeout Program.
Woodstove Changeouts
