A Leadership Path Years in the Making

As Sean Hunt steps into the role of HPBAC President, he does so with a clear sense of direction and a strong foundation behind him. His path to this moment was not sudden. It began a few years ago when he was first approached to join the executive team, knowing that the journey would eventually lead here.

That decision was made easier by the people already at the table. “Having Laura, Dan, Jesse and Steve on the executive, and the fact that there was such a clear strategic plan at the time, made my decision very easy,” he says.

Defining the Focus: Education and Information

Now, as he prepares to take on the presidency, Sean’s focus is already taking shape. At the center of his vision are two priorities that he believes will define the association’s value in the years ahead: education and access to better information.

In his view, education is not just a benefit, it is a competitive advantage. “Retailers with trained staff consistently perform better. Education drives confidence, consistency, and professionalism across sales, installation and service.”

Alongside that, he sees a growing need for clearer, more accessible data across the industry. Better information leads to better decisions, both at the board level and within member businesses.

“If HPBAC can bring clarity and insight, it becomes much more valuable as a resource,” he emphasizes. Together, these priorities point toward an organization that is increasingly focused, practical, and responsive to the realities members face every day.

Navigating Volatility in a Changing Industry

Sean’s leadership approach is also shaped by the broader environment the industry is navigating. Right now, that environment is defined by uncertainty. “The biggest challenge right now is volatility,” he says.

From shifting market conditions to changing consumer behaviour, businesses are being forced to adapt quickly. Customers are more deliberate, more value-focused, and less predictable. For Sean, that reinforces the importance of consistency and professionalism across the industry.

In uncertain times, strong training, clear standards, and reliable information are what help businesses stay grounded and earn trust.

That perspective is rooted in his own experience within HPBAC. “Sitting quietly has never really been my style,” he claims. That has been apparent from the beginning. Sean has taken an active role, building relationships and contributing wherever he could. It is a style that reflects both his personality and his belief in what the association represents.

The Power of People and Collaboration

What stands out most in his journey so far is not a single initiative, but the people he has worked alongside. Regular collaboration with the executive team has created a sense of connection and shared purpose that continues to shape how he thinks about leadership.

“It’s been very pleasant working with such passionate industry professionals… the close relationships I developed really made me feel valued,” he claims. “It’s really collaboration. It’s the people. It’s the sense of community.” That emphasis on people carries through into what he is most looking forward to as President. For Sean, leadership is not about setting direction from a distance. It is about working alongside others who care deeply about the same industry.

“Just do it,” he states. That sense of community is also what he points to when encouraging others to get involved. For members who may be hesitant about stepping forward, his advice is simple.

What they will find, he says, is a group of passionate professionals who are invested in the future of an industry that has given so much to them. It is a place where contributions matter and where time invested has real impact.

A Clear Vision for the Future

As he begins his term, Sean captures his outlook in a single statement:

“An industry connected by people, strengthened through education and guided by clear information.”

It is a vision that builds on the work of those before him while setting a clear path forward. One that is grounded in practical value, informed decision-making, and strong relationships.

At its core, his message is simple: the more the industry works together, the stronger it becomes. “The more that we collaborate together, the more that we focus on relationships and people to drive our decisions, the better the outcome will be.”

With that mindset, Sean steps into the presidency ready to lead, listen, and continue building something that matters.
